Layna is a very intelligent retriever and an incredible hunting partner. She has been amateur trained, learns concepts quickly and possesses a high desire to please.
Layna is really birdy, and picks up every retrieve with style and enthusiasm. She is also a loving companion with that much coveted on/off switch that allows her to come home and be an excellent house dog - she's great with people and instinctively gentle with kids.
Layna is our primary dove hunting dog; her athleticism and endurance allow us to hunt for hours, and she never gets tired of picking up those birds. She's a good marker and is quick to find birds that fall in high cover or brush. She's also a great duck dog with an awesome water entry.
Layna has proven to be an exceptional companion in the home and in the field. She has been amateur trained by me purely for the purpose hunting. She went on her first hunt at 10 months old, and has continued to go with me on almost every hunt since then. Layna was bred from some very nice hunt test stock that are the product of a solid foundation of field champions some generations back.
Layna had 3 great litters. The first was by FC AFC Homer, the second by HRCH Sabe MH, and the third by CNFC CAFC FC AFC Blue. We are very happy with what she has been able to produce. She's been a great mama, but now we're happy to let her live out her days doing two other things she's good at: laying around the house and hunting with Jason.
